Thursday, February 17, 2022, Generations Without Qat Organization for Awareness and Development carried out an event entitled (Inspiring Women and Youth.) in the hall of the Taj Shamsan Hotel, where four speakers were hosted for them and they have various societal contributions in building societal peace and participating in decision-making.
This event comes within the project of “Strengthening Community Participation and Building the Capacity of Civil Society Organizations, Youth and Women’s Initiatives and Activating Their Roles in Society” implemented by Generations Without Qat Organization in the districts of Cairo and Mudhaffar in Taiz Governorate.
In the event, the first speaker, Arwa Al-Omari, Director of the Businesswomen’s Department in the Chamber of Commerce in Taiz Governorate, presented her story in community work and peacebuilding and her roles in empowering women economically, and that she worked during the war years to train many women and young women, build their economic capabilities, and help female entrepreneurs obtain Grants and training programs that build the capabilities of women entrepreneurs in order to market their projects and establish these projects according to foundations that ensure their continuity and distinction, and also contributed to the women entrepreneurs receiving training courses in marketing for their projects.
Brother Ahmed Al-Akhali also presented his story as a translator for the deaf and dumb categories and his contribution to the establishment of entities to train deaf and dumb sign language in Taiz Governorate, enabling them to interact and social integration, obtaining their guaranteed rights and facilitating their access to study seats in universities. Which provides services to the deaf and mute category, such as hospitals, universities, and schools in order to facilitate dealing with this important segment of society.
As for the third speaker, Sabah Rajeh, director of the Center for the Protection of Women and Girls, she presented her story about caring for women who are subjected to domestic violence, as well as those who end prison sentences and go out to life without a breadwinner or their families refuse to support them, as she contributed to protecting many women during the war period and forgetting this segment, both in The legal or psychological aspect or economic empowerment, as it worked to provide them with living opportunities by training them with skills that help them integrate into the labor market and provide a shelter for some and protect them from delinquency and loss.
In the presentation of the fourth speaker, speaker Sabah Farhan, head of the Amal Charitable Steps Initiative, presented her story of community work and contribution to peacebuilding through her contribution to resolving conflicts due to lack of education or sanitation services and health aspects in the districts of Al-Qaherah and Salh in Taiz city, as well as her contribution to resolving family disputes Providing services to the community through its relationship with the local authority in the governorate, as well as civil society and social figures.
For his part, the project director, Hamid Khaled, explained that "such events shed light on inspiring models of women and youth who contributed to building community peace and supported the participation of women and youth in decision-making."
He said, "These events are (talks that simulate TEDx events) within the framework of community hearings for youth groups, women and decision-makers, and present the experiences of youth and women in peacebuilding. They aim to increase community awareness of youth, women, and decision-makers with a message that women's participation in peacebuilding Decision making is important to the long-term stability of local communities in Yemen.”
It is worth mentioning that this project worked to build the capacities of 92 civil society organizations, women's groups, and youth and women's initiatives. These organizations, women's groups, and initiatives also received small grants to implement projects that contribute to building community peace and increasing the participation of women and youth in decision-making.
